Skinny Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Shake Recipe

This shake is my secret weapon for when those late-night sweet cravings hit but I want to keep things light. It is incredibly thick, rich, and tastes exactly like a frozen peanut butter cup, minus the sugar crash.

Method

  1. Place the frozen banana slices into the blender base first to ensure they hit the blades effectively.

  2. Add the almond milk, Greek yogurt, cocoa powder, powdered peanut butter, and vanilla extract.

  3. Top with the ice cubes to help push the other ingredients down.

  4. Secure the lid and blend on high for 45-60 seconds or until the consistency is completely smooth and creamy.

  5. If the shake is too thick, add an extra splash of almond milk. If you prefer it thicker, add 2-3 more ice cubes and blend again.

  6. Pour into a chilled glass and serve immediately.

Notes

Use very ripe bananas with plenty of brown spots before freezing; they provide all the natural sweetness you need without adding sugar.

For the creamiest texture, peel and slice your bananas into 'coins' before freezing them in a single layer.

If you want even more protein, you can swap the cocoa powder for a scoop of chocolate whey or plant-based protein powder.

Adding a tiny pinch of sea salt really makes the chocolate and peanut butter flavors pop.

Questions

Can I make this shake dairy-free?
Yes! Simply swap the Greek yogurt for a dairy-free alternative like almond or soy yogurt, or just omit it entirely and add a bit more frozen banana for creaminess.
Do I have to use powdered peanut butter?
No, you can use regular natural peanut butter, but it will increase the fat and calorie content. Use 1 tablespoon of regular PB for a similar flavor profile.
Is this shake filling enough for a meal?
It's a great light breakfast or snack. If you want it as a full meal replacement, I recommend adding a tablespoon of chia seeds or flax meal for extra fiber and healthy fats.
Can I store this in the fridge for later?
Smoothies are best enjoyed fresh because of the frozen banana texture. If you must store it, keep it in an airtight jar for up to 4 hours and give it a good shake before drinking.
