Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and Nutella together until the mixture is smooth and completely combined.

  2. Stir in the graham cracker crumbs, then gradually add the powdered sugar. Mix until a stiff dough forms that can be handled without sticking excessively to your fingers.

  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop out about two tablespoons of the mixture at a time and roll it into an oval egg shape. Place each egg on the prepared sheet.

  4. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for at least 30 minutes. This ensures the eggs don't melt or lose their shape when dipped in the warm chocolate.

  5. While the eggs are chilling, combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until the chocolate is silky and melted.

  6. Remove the eggs from the freezer. Use a fork to dip each egg into the melted chocolate, letting the excess drip off before returning it to the parchment paper.

  7. Place the eggs back in the refrigerator for 20 minutes to allow the chocolate shell to fully set. Store in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to serve.

Notes

If the filling feels too soft to shape, chill it in the fridge for 15 minutes before rolling.

Use a toothpick to slide the egg off the fork onto the parchment paper to keep the coating looking neat.

For an extra touch, sprinkle a little sea salt or crushed hazelnuts on top before the chocolate shell sets.

Keep the eggs refrigerated until the very moment you are ready to serve them, as the center is quite soft at room temperature.

Questions

Can I use a different brand of hazelnut spread?
Absolutely! Any store-brand hazelnut spread will work just as well as name-brand Nutella.
How long do these homemade eggs last?
They stay fresh in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Do I have to use graham cracker crumbs?
The crumbs provide structure; if you don't have them, you can use crushed digestive biscuits or even fine vanilla wafer crumbs.
Can I freeze these for later?
Yes, these eggs freeze beautifully for up to three months. Just thaw them in the fridge for an hour before eating.
